Brave Indie Foundation champions young storytellers and filmmakers to be catalysts for change in their communities.

Our mission is to empower young people with practical training, funding, and resources to gain the media skills necessary to be creative and productive individuals, and to fully realise their films to create audience impact and awareness around social issues in six areas: the environment, health care, human rights, institutional responsibility, peace and tolerance, and social and economic justice.

In the aftermath of Grenfell Tower fire, we established Forward Focus Short Film Initiative that combined a comprehensive package of production funding, training and expert mentoring for young people living in West London who had been affected by the Grenfell tragedy. 

The initiative received funding from London Funders and was aimed at helping young people learn the fundamentals of filmmaking as well as understanding how film can be a powerful visual outlet to creatively express views, actions and emotions to evoke constructive debate and inspire social change. 

Six participants aged between 17-24 took part in an intensive four-week programme of practical filmmaking workshops led by industry practitioners, and collaboratively developed an innovative idea for a short film with a focus on stories from the local community before, during, or in the aftermath of Grenfell Tower fire. The initiative culminated in the production of short film Blindspot that premiered at Portobello Film Festival where it was nominated for a Golden Heart Trellick Award for Best Local Film.   

Since completing Forward Focus, all participants have been provided with opportunities of employment on upcoming film and television productions as well as paid film production training. 

Brave Indie Foundation is launching the next stage of Forward Focus in spring 2022. The initiative will team young people up with established filmmakers to collaboratively produce an anthology of short films.
